The Beaver Dam Bass Anglers cranked up their 2009 tournament season with a 2-Day event at Sturgeon Bay on May 30 and 31st. Holding a two day tournament to start the season was a first for BDBA, and presented anglers with an added challenge to get off to a good start for the season. After a long-off season, ang- lers were ready to hit the water in their efforts to find big fish on the "Bay". This would be the club's first ever visit to this body of water. Sturgeon Bay, well known for it's quality smallmouth bass fishing would hold true to form as the club weight record for a 5 fish limit would fal for the second cons- ecutive year. Club Angler Jesse Kind from Waupun jumped out to an early lead in the Mr. Bass points race with a 1st Place finish at Sturgeon Bay on Saturday. Jesse's 5 fish limit of 16lbs. 15ozs. beat the rest of the field and secured the victory. 2nd Place honors went to Jason Loewe of Ripon who weighed in another 5 bass limit for 15lbs 1oz. Taking home 3rd Place was Eric Hidde of Waupun who weighed in 5 bass for 14lbs. 14ozs. Con- gratulations to all the Top finishers!

Day 2 started with calm conditions as anglers left the docks for another day of fishing, and aside from a breezy Day 1, favorable weather prevailed for the entire weekend. For anglers that struggled on Saturday, the calmer water allowed for further travel in search of some better fish. For some anglers this move would pay off. As with many tournaments, the key to success is not so much what you are throwing, but where you are fishing. Jesse Kind carried over his winning pattern from Day 1 as he notched another victory on Sunday. Jesse's 5 bass weight of 19lbs. 13ozs. broke the club record for a one day catch and lead him to another 1st Place finish. Congrat- ulations Jesse on a fine fishing performance! Taking 2nd Place was Eric Hidde who follow- ed up Saturday's performance with another solid limit on Sunday. Eric weighed in another 5 bass for a total of 15lbs. 15ozs. Greg Haut from Waukesha notched his first ever Top 3 finish in a club event as he weighed in 5 bass for 15lbs. 1oz. and a 3rd Place finish. Congrat- ulations to all the top finishers!
